The Board of Directors of the Bell Fund has announced its decisions for the November 29, 2021 deadline for the Slate Development Program.
By offering financial support for the development of Canadian intellectual property (“IP”), the Slate Development Program aims to grow and foster the independent production industry. In only 4 years, Bell Fund has supported 149 Canadian independent production companies with over 8M in development funding for over 300 projects. Several of these great Canadian projects have moved into production and secured market partnerships such as Marble Media’s Overlord and the Underwoods, Longhope Media’s Abroad, Sienna Films’ The Porter, Picbois Productions’ Trafic, and Sphère Média’s Épidémie.
Bell Fund is committing over 2.2M for this round of development which includes 90 projects from 34 independent production companies (26 English and 8 French language) from five provinces (British Columbia, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Quebec). We look forward to partnering with this latest group of strong Creators from across Canada.
Bell Fund is committed to supporting a more equitable, diverse, and inclusive industry including support for emerging creators. In this round, 35 percent of funded companies are majority-owned by people identifying as Black, Indigenous and People of Colour; and 65 percent are majority-owned by women.
